In fact I happen to believe that looking at design as art cheapens design (whether you're talking about graphics, product, service or any other form of design). As a graphic designer myself I was often pissed off with people assuming you could be a designer just because you could draw. I don't know why the ability (or experience) to draw a naked woman makes you a prime candidate to be a designer...
